COP, a cyclic olefin polymer, is an amorphous homopolymer formed by heterotopic ring opening polymerization of dicycloheptene (norbornene) under the action of a metallocene catalyst, followed by hydrogenation reaction. Developed and produced by Zeon Corporation in Japan, it is used for medical optical components and high-end pharmaceutical packaging materials.
It has the characteristics of high transparency, low birefringence, low water absorption, high rigidity, high heat resistance, and good water vapor tightness.
COP has a transmittance comparable to TAC and PMMA, with a density about 10% lower than PMMA and PC, and a glass transition temperature of 140-170 ℃.
It has better heat resistance, mechanical properties, and weather resistance than TAC.
